I live in a huge apartment building. I noticed a lot of dog poo in the grass outside and have stepped on it a couple of times. I unknowingly tracked it into my apartment one day where my toddler walks! I was so angry, I posted a sign that says, "Clean up after your dog!!" A couple of days later, someone took it down and wrote on the other side, "No f-ing dog in this rent!" and then reposted it. What does that even mean? I just put it back the way I had it, but fear that they are now going to mess with me even more. Do you think I am dealing with 2 sepearate issues here? (The person who changed my sign might not even own a dog) How would you deal with both? I live in Chicago. Isn't there a law against this?

I don't think these people live in my building. I meant neighbors in the neighborhood.

Don't call the Chicago police dept, they'll probably end up laughing at you, don't waste your time. Best bet try talking to the landlord and see if he can do something. Maybe it's just a matter of putting up those small chains around the grass. Or you could just stand out there one day with a camera, when someone doesn't pick up after their dog start taking their picture and threaten to report them, though I don't think that would go over to well either lol.
Now, if that was me, I'd stand out there with some plastic bags, if they didn't pick it up, I would. Then I'd follow them to their building and throw it at them and ask how they like being covered in s**t? Tit for tat as far as I'm concerned.

In MN you must have dated photos of the dog engaged in the act and or dated video tape of the act to get it stopped. There has to be proof of more than 1 offense to file a complaint with the city. Check with local animal control about your area.
In my case, I got lucky, the owner moved before I caught enough offenses to get the city involved. Problem solved.
In another instance another neighbor and I went out early one morning and individually bagged each poopy and lined them against the garage of the offending townhome owner. Residents drove by seeing the volume of bags in front of the garage (couple dozen) and it was never a problem again.
Best wishes.

i would write to the appartment complex telling them that there is alot of people not cleaning up after their dogs, try to see who it is so you can give them appartment numbers, i think they have to clean it up since its a public place, not their own back yard. see if the appartment complex managers do anything, they might write them a note, check in your lease, see if it says anything about having dogs and cleaning up after them. i used to live in an appartment and it said in the lease under the pet addendum thta you have to clean up after them. they might be violating the lease and can get in trouble...check it out
