I just dont understand why so much energy is wasted bashing christianity, or islam, or judism, or any other religion. If you don't believe it that's fine. I used to be an atheist, and would make the same silly comments and ask the same questions. But I have the answers now.

I understand that there are alot of christians that represent christianity poorly by judging others and claiming to know people's salvation. I agree on seperation of church and state. I dont like being called weak, or whatever because someone doesnt believe the same. I found it easier to not believe than to believe.
O and to the one guy, I was athiest when I believed there was no such thing as God.

I have been an atheist for 30 years. I do not go out looking for debates or arguments against religious people. I dont wear a sign around my neck that says I DONT BELIEVE IN GOD! I dont make it a point to tell everyone I meet what I believe or dontbelieve. I really only divulge my beliefs when someone asks me what they are. (and here is where your question comes in) When I do tell religious people that I am an atheist it is like I am the lowest form of life on Earth. These people talk to me in ways that just amaze me. They tell me I am wrong, that I will go to hell for not believing. I am treated as an outcast. These are usually Christian people, who are supposed to be forgiving, and full of kindness and love for their fellow man and yet they treat me like dirt because I dont believe what they believe.
I dont bad mouth their religion. I dont "blaspheme" their god. I just tell them I dont believe and I get s*** upon. So, the atheist you say "are bashing" are probably defending themselves by attacking the people who attacked them first. You say you were an atheist. You should understand why atheists have to use what we can to defend our opinions

I don't understand what busines it is of anyone what other people believe. I see a lot of people here (some athiests, some christians and some islamics, mainly) that seem to spend a lot of time worrying about what other people think, believe and do - as if it's a personal affront or problem if others think, live or believe differently than themselves. I think it is astonishing, myself.
When will people realize that there are many paths to enlightenment and a personal relationship with the world around them (and the divine) is just that - personal and private. I look forward to a day when people can just mind their own business and live and let live.
Peace!

It is a great heated debate for them because they think they have something on us.The bible clearly states about how to treat unbelievers.Actually everytime I pray I pray for the unbelievers of the world.I pray for the muslims, too. They are decieved just as much as the unbeliever.God is dilligently placing certain evidence and clues all over the world for people to see,but many turn away because they know that their life will change drastically, and they are already stuck in their ways.
But this is the way it's supposed to be.You would think Israel becoming A state would be enough proof. You would think seeing all the Jews migrating back to Israel would be enough proof. You would think discovering King Solomons Gate would be enough proof, but it's not.If they aren't looking, they will never find him.Our job as christians inspite of how they treat us,we should still forgive them, pray for them, and witness to them.
All of us can use the example the Amish community set when their children were killed. They loved the killers family and consoled them with love and forgiveness.
God says:Christians be angry and sin not.

I really couldn't care less what you believe. I have no problem with people believing what their experiences suggest is the truth -- it's what we all do. I was an absolutely convinced & convicted Saved By Christ Christian for nearly half my time on this planet, having read the entire Bible multiple times filled with the Holy Spirit, and read the Summa Theologica as well. Now I'm an atheist.
What I object to is people who feel justified in shoving their religion down other people's throats or using their religion to try to legislate morality. For example, marriage is a religious concept, not a legal concept -- the legal concept is the contract. Religion should have no say in the contract and the government should have no say in the marriage. Yet one of the big political divisions is the whole gay marriage thing.

I'm not sure they care more than just wanting to ask questions. Even though they will not admit it. They have their own unanswered questions. I know many athiests do not bash religions, but more put a question into Christians lives that may lead to the conclusion... what if there is no God. Here's a quote for you by a mathmatician and philosopher in the 17th century. He told his friends, " If I believe in God and life after death and you do not, and if there is no God, we both lose when we die. However, if there is a God, you still lose and I gain everything." - Blaise Pascal.

It's kind of tit-for-tat. I was mad for a long time at believers. I had this religious friend that would make me feel lower than dirt as well as interfere in my family in malicious ways.
Finlally, I got over it. Not only are there bigots in any group of people - but my day goes better when I ignore them and focus on the good people. I even made an apology to Christians on this site.
I kicked my false friend to the curb and moved on. You can, too.

Honestly, athiests do not care about any religion. Personally, I don't believe that the rest of us should have another religion crammed down our throats. Live in peace and harmony...practice your religion at your free will on your free time. Please be respectful in this diverse world and recognize that we are all different. Put into prospective what we have in common...not what is different...this makes us all better people. No religion is right or wrong--I don't hate any religion. But respect people that treat other people well, respect the earth and truly care about humanity. Many athiests contribute much time and energy to worthy causes such as the Peace Corps--and simply because they are souls that are "individually" empowered, does not make them evil. Many are good people and care deeply for humanity, please think before judging. Peace to you and I truly hope you find happiness in living.

Well, basically - although I'm NOT an "atheist" - the problem is that the "christian agenda" is being pushed on secular society with ever-increasing aggression. We have Creationism being taught in public school science class, to mention only one relatively famous example. And if you're "christian," this seems like a great idea, of course, and you think people are just being mean and evil for resenting this utterly inappropriate, unconstitutional intrusion.
I don't care about your beliefs - trust me. But that's just the thing with religion - people group-think, and they tend to want everybody else to join the group, whether they want to or not. THAT is what people resent about it. I honestly hope this helps clarify.

Christians have a bad habit of pushing their religion on everyone else. No one really knows what is completely real so they rely on their beliefs. We all know what ancient scriptures have written and a lot of them have been mistranslated over and over again. Your spiritual beliefs are a quest for you and you alone. Not to recruit others. Your journey is your own journey. I don't think anyone cares about someone Else's beliefs so long as they are not pushed on them.

To be honest, I don't care what you believe as long as you don't care what I or anyone else believes.
If you're one of these uber-religious types that say things like "I'll pray for you" and try to preach at every given moment or that try to force religion into school curriculum then I have a problem with you.
