My family prints the pictures I email at 4x6 at a one hour photo place. I want to resize my snapshots (the everyday pictures) to a smaller file size (to save disk space) that will still print well for out-of-state family. My goal is to have only one file for each snapshot.
Does anyone have a suggested method, pixel ratio or resolution? I'm currently at 3072x2304 pixel dementions. I use Picasa2 for organization & PhotoshopCS for edits & cropping.

Just a point. You are saving the photos as Jpegs, right. They only take up about half the space..................Remember too, that if you reduce resolution, you cannot up them again. If you are short of space, save them to a Disc and only upload them when you are working on them................. Finally, you can get a USB flash disk, 1 gb or 2gb onto which you can save about 1,000 or 2,000 photos respectively...............

If you accept 300 dpi as a good print, which most people do, I'd say 1800 x 1200 pixels (about 2 MP) is adequate as long as you do not crop any images.

Rebecca has experience at this though, so maybe you would prefer to go larger, but I am perfectly happy with 300 dpi - even when viewed with a magnifying glass.

trust me, if you want prints as small as 4x6 size, you can resize them to 1200x1600 or what you call is two mp. you wont need more than that.
