Correct way to use flat iron?

I usually shower in the morning. I would like to use a flat iron on my hair...Should I shower and blow dry my hair the night before then just flat iron in the morning or is it ok to follow up drying with the iron? I am concerned with unnecessary damage to my hair but love the straight look.

I personally use an ionic blow dryer, and follow-up with a ceramic flat-iron. High quality electronics do less damage to your hair. Blow dry your hair until its completely dry so your flat iron does less work. Don't set your flat iron to its highest setting (they usually go to about 25, I find that 15 works just fine.) Use an anti-frizz agent, I recommend Garnier Fructis Smoothing Milk or Aussie Calm That Frizz. If you have a Sally Beauty Supply near to they make a flat-iron protection oil that you spray in your hair prior to straightening. Don't use too much, or you'll look greasy, but a little bit will make your hair less likely to fry, and you'll look shiny and beautiful. After I straighten my hair, I like to blow dry it again on cool, just to add a little shine and body to my hair.

You can shower in the morning but just make sure you put some kind of conditioning treatment in your hair before you dry and straighen it! so you don't damage it!

i put a heat protector spray on my hair before i blow dry it then again before i use my irons but use lots of conditioner too
