I have a 1997 Taurus and I am concerned that the dome light that comes on when yoru open the door does not go off when you close the door, and a warning lamp on the dashboard indicates that I have left a door open. I have checked all four doors and found them to be securely closed. Why won't this dang indicator shut off so that the dome light will go out? I heard that there is wiring in the trunk that can become severed which would result in this problem. Can someone fill me in?

THERE IS WHAT IS CALLED A DOOR JAM SWITCH OR PIN SWITCH IN THE DOORFRAME
OPEN THE DOOR AND LOOK FOR A LITTLE PLUNGER AFFAIR
TRIP THE SWITCH BY PUSHING IT A FEW TIMES AND LETTING IT SNAP BACK
YOU MAY NEED TO REMOVE THE SWITCH AND SPRAY WITH WD40 OR ELECTRICAL CONTACT CLEANER AND TRY IT
IF STILL NO GOOD REPLACE WITH A NEW ONE
EASY JOB

I had a similar problem with a Lincoln that I had. The switch in one of the back doors would cause the interior lights to stay on. Like Dave said, I sprayed WD-40 on and into the latch area and it solved the problem. I would try that first.

There's a switch on the door jamb that turns the light off. It's probably broken. Get it replaced.

Have it checked by your local ford dealer and ask about the latest recalls as you may know, Fords have a bad rep for catching on fire even when they are not in use.
