Is seeing an attractive woman dressed in a pair of jeans and a babydoll top, with her beautiful hair hanging in a sculpted ponytail, and her feet in some very cute sandals...a provocation to rape her?

I'm very curious, because although I know most men will look at a pretty lady walking down the street, only sickos and psychopaths rape them. However, this seems to be reason numero uno why Muslims advocate the veil, burka, etc. for women, and it seems like an extreme prophylaxis to deter a potential assault, when the women aren't doing anything, it's the sickness in the potetial rapists heart and mind.

Who is really safe from anything these days? This argument for "hijab" really seems overkill. Women still get assaulted in veils and overgarments. Would it not be more sensical to just make rape a capital offense, punishable by castration and life inprisionment or death depending on the severity? That should curtail rogue "passions" and give females more freedom. Right?

If you will study how muslim women are treated you will find out that it doesn't matter what they are wearing. They are treated like the dirt under your feet. The female muslim population has no rights. They're never given the chance to be educated.Constantly being dumbed down. The only muslim women that has rights are the muslim women in America. As soon as they are told to do so,American women and men will not have any rights either. The enemy is in our backyard.Infiltrated deep in American society. All their waiting on is the call to quit faking and show their true colors. You would think that when they got over here they would find out America is a great country to live in,but there are still many who prove everyday that Americans can be downright ugly to others. In the defence of the foreigner's view of the rest of the world, everyday I go out into the world I see first hand why they call us ugly Americans.

Are you sure it's only rape that the Muslims are worried about?

An attractive woman dressed in a provocative way does invite lust, and can expect to be pursued in less aggressive ways by men who are by no means "sickos" or "psychopaths". I was under the impression that Islam's edicts were aimed at preventing that kind of thing as well.

Also be aware the Islam is not the only religion with this practice. Take a look at the website I put under sources (and notice while you're there that it has the worst ever URL...LOL).

The #1 benefit of Yahoo! Answers: you get a well-rounded answer from people of all backgrounds. Suggesting that ONLY males answer could lead you to a somewhat one-sided argument at times.

Since rape has nothing to do with passion, love, or even lust a lot of times, but power, it has less to do with sexual attraction to a woman than it does the availability of someone to violate and practice your power on. Therefore, what a woman wears has very little to do with rape in many situations.

I think I understand what you're saying about middle eastern women wearing the clothing that covers them completely, but I don't think it has to do with protecting her in many situations. If someone is set to rape, no amount of clothing makes a difference a lot of times. The requirement of women to be covered has to do with respecting and not shaming her husband/father/brother, and with following what they believe in their faith.

It could be argued that castration may not even stop rapes, it would just change them. If rapes were specifically about sex, then yes, it would certainly help. But since rape is really about power and causing pain and shame to someone else, that can be accomplished by assault or sodemy.

On the record, I think some serious changes should be made in how sexual predators are punished, but I don't know what those changes should be. If too many things become capital offenses, punishable by life in prison or death, that would go against our entire judicial system. Currently, even a lot of murders aren't considered a capital offense. Child abuse or molestation isn't a capital crime. There's definately changes to be made, but certain changes can lead to America losing its foundation of freedom (I do NOT want to be mistaken here: I would dearly love to make sure anyone who commits these crimes would lose every freedom they had).

Hi - There is absolutely no reason to rape anybody under any circumstances for any reason. There are no excuses.

Having said that, women also need to be aware that there are sicko's out there and they need to be careful about what they wear and how they act. If a women dresses badly and hangs around with bad people in bad neighborhoods and gets raped then she might be guilty of being stupid but it is still 100% the rapist's fault.

Well, obviously nothing is justifiable provocation to rape. And mind you, even in Occidental countries, controlled by Christian religions, this stupid argument has been used by rapists to justify their action. And sadly enough, some judges have bought the arguments. I remember a judge in Italy judging the case of a woman wearing jeans, who was raped. And this judge said you cannot 'take a person's jeans off, without help' (sic). And that implied that the woman was in agreement. And Italy is an overwhelmingly Catholic country.

Rapists do not normally rape women for their looks.
An attractive woman may be admired and maybe heckled by the everyday girl watcher but not raped.
Personally I am attracted to fully clothed women and I sometimes I wish I could unclothe the Muslim chicks and discover just what's hidden behind the the mask and underneath the (sometimes) sexy hijab.

Obviously I am not male. But I'm pretty sure it is not just the attractive ones that get raped. They cannot have that harsh of a sentence because sometimes, and it saddens me to say, but sometimes women lie about it. And to have someone wrongly accused castrated would be absolutley terrible. The 3 strikes your out law (3 offences and you are a dangerous criminal) seems too lax. But it's a start. It's a very scary world. Makes you want someone in your life that can protect you. God Bless.

Rapists rationalize their selfish acts by saying they were enticed by their victims, but this is just an excuse to try to justify their actions in their own heads. Society doesn't buy this because we know there is no justification for rape. That sort of outfit would make most men look, maybe even twice, and it might even get the imagination kicked into gear, but the vast majority of men don't find forcing a woman to do something against her will an attractive thought.

And I agree that requiring women to cover themselves in order to not provoke an unwanted response in men is barking up the wrong tree in most cases. Real men can control their urges. You shouldn't have to close every bank in town to keep them from committing robbery. (Bad analogy, I'll admit, but hopefully it gets the thought across.)

I societies where meat-eating and other pastimes that aggravate the libido are present, then it is understandable that women would hide.

The sex desire is very difficult to control. If women go around dressed provocatively they may be unnecessarily agitating the minds of others.

Men resorting to rape have probably suffered poor upbringing and lack proper education. Get more beneficial education to everyone in its different forms to reduce the possibility of crime in the world.

big deal as far as the clothing is concerned. prefer to see a Lady in an Antebellum style dress anytime than anything else.

but truthfully there are some who will always let their physical desires get out of control and then whoever happens to be around may have a possibility to suffer -- no matter who they are
