How do I permanently disable a service in System Configuration Utility?

I isolated a service that is causing a problem by temporarily disabling it. But there doesn't seem to be an option to permanently disable or uninstall it.

Thanks to both bloop and sonyack. You each offered a different road to the same destination. And, once there, it worked! Service now disabled. Thank you both very very much!!

You can try going to "Control Panel," then "Administrative Tools," then click on "Component Services." After that, you can choose the services tab and then select which service you don't to be run by right clicking on that service and select "Properties," then choose "Startup Type," either manual or diasbled. If you really want to uninstall it, you will have to look for the program to uninstall or look for the files associated with that program and delete it.

Do not deal with Services from the System Config Utility.

Type services.msc in the Run box and hit enter. The Services windows comes up, with all the services listed there. Scroll down to the service in question and disable it by double clicking the entry and choosing disable from the drop down menu.

Window Vista has way more feature plus better hardware that support vista with window xp barely any functions that can keep up with newer technology. Plus the reason why they make a 2nd Verizon of a product is because it is better then the 1 st verizon. So before you start saying window xp is better then vista which is obviously not because with window xp barley has any functions can it support blue tooth? Can window xp be attach to xbox 360 or ps3? vista can but plus these people who are saying xp either cant afford vista or has a older computer.... And also they made a newer verison of vista less glichts.

If the service was installed by a software then you will need to uninstall that software and the service will be removed automatically. If it's a Windows service then you can disable it.
