Pete's question made me think about something, http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Ak4ZAK5jUC7kKv2CR_nM457zy6IX?qid=20061018090847AA47ub1

If God is the creator of everything, then technically speaking he created Hell. Why would a "loving" God create such a place to torture lost souls for all eternity?!?

Doesn't seem very loving to me if he actually created a place like that....

.oO(Again makes more sense that MAN created God and all that jazz to instill fear into the population)

Again another good point on how the bible is just a story book that someone wrote.

He didn't create it for the sole purpose of torture. That's just the way you see it, due to the circumstances of your life so far...

We have free will. We have the free will to pick heaven or hell. Many folks even when the Hand of God reaches out for them will pick hell.

Throughout history we have had very evil people who CHOOSE to do evil. They PICK evil over good. i.e., they pick hell.

They slap God away. He doesn't force his mercy on us. But it is always there. Even for a soul who repents on his death bed.

Religion was not created to instill fear. Again, you see it that way due to the circumstances of your life. But if you really dug in and learned about what religion is, you'd feel differently.

Religion means community. Religion and faith can be similar but normally are very separate and distinct. Since that isn't your question I'll let it go at that.

You are right, in that God did create hell. But God didn't originally create hell for people. He created it for the devil and his demons, to punish them for their sins. The problem was we went and sinned ourselves. God is a loving god, and He doesn't want anyone to end up in hell. But He is also a just God, who will carry out His law without partiality, the same way any judge would. A judge that bends or throws out the law in order to carry out his own wishes isn't called a good judge, but a corrupt judge. God is not a corrupt judge.

But that's why He sent Jesus, to pay the death penalty for our sins on our behalf. But we still have to turn away from those sins and believe God (because if we don't believe God's Word we are calling Him a liar, and that's still actively living in sin).

By the way, that was a very good question!

P.S. to Lover of Bible truth~ I think you are getting Sheol/the Grave and Gehenna/Hell mixed up. Most Christians use these two things interchangabley, like they are the same thing, but they are not. They are two different places. One is the place of the dead, which you are talking about. The other is the Second Death, the lake of fire.

well in the bible it says that the devil was once an angel who sang
beautiful music for the people but then turn on everyone when he became too powerful and his music began to be evil and influence people
WHICH BRINGS UP ANOTHER QUESTION IS OUR MUSIC (SOME RAP ALTERNATIVE PUNK ROCK) PURE EVIL FROM THE DEVIL
anyway to get back on subject
God who is proclaimed the creator did make the devil from what I take from the bible THERE'S NOT ONE RELIGION WHO CAN JUSTIFY THAT HE DIDN'T "ALL IN Existence IS FROM AND BY GOD"
but to me I look at the bible as a mythology book of life learned stories nothing more nothing less
I am very spiritual and do believe in a higher power whether his name is God or not
and in my spiritual belief there is good and evil angel and devils
CANT GIVE YOU A REASON WHY THAT'S JUST HOW IT IS
every side has an opposite ....I could go on and on

Think about what it would be like in our world if there were no prisons to lock up the hardened criminals.......

Hell is for satan & demons and those who will be separated from God for eternity.

For anyone reading this who is wondering about God's characteristics I would encourage them to study the bible for themselves. To make a casual statement "if God is such a loving God then why......fill in the blank", in my opinion is made without the knowledge of who God is.

He is a righteous judge. (Do you know of any judges hear on earth who are corrupt? or make really bad judgements) God's judgements are right and just.

Does any one know why Jonah didn't want to go to Nineveh? It wasn't because he was scared of God or of the Ninevites, it was because he knew this about God - "in order to forstall this I fled to Tarshish, for I knew that You are a gracious and compassionate God, slow to anger and abundant in lovingkindness, and one who relents concerning calamity" Jonah 4:2b

Jonah knew that the Ninevites were wicked and going to perish but God told him to go there and preach repentance. When Jonah was given a second chance to go he preached, they repented and were saved. Jonah wasn't too happy about it cause he thought they deserved to perish......

Anyway I encourage those who are interested to study the bible and see what they learn about God. It is the only way to know for yourself who He is, and what He is all about.

God created Hell for Satan and his demons. They needed a place to go. They can't be in His Heaven. Those who deny Him and choose Satan (Not for God is against God) need a place to go also. They can't be with Him in His Heaven. Therefore, they get to go to Hell also. There Satan can be the little god he always wanted to be. Won't it be fun in Hell with Satan? He's evil and he's going to enjoy every minute of you.

Hell is not a place of eternal torment like Christendom teaches. The Bible hell is where all people go when they die. It is the common grave.
How do we know that hell is the grave? Well, we can read many verses in God's Word that assures us of that fact. Here are but a few:

Psalm 139:8--"If I ascend into heaven, You are there; If I make my bed in hell, behold, You are there." (If hell is a fiery, hot place of torture, would David think God (Psalms 83:18) would be there ?)
Amos 9:2--"Though they dig into hell, From there My hand shall take them; Though they climb up to heaven, From there I will bring them down." ( Can you dig into fire? No, but you can dig into the earth and God can find you no matter where you try to hide.)
Jonah 2:2--"And said, I cried by reason of mine affliction unto the LORD, and he heard me; out of the belly of hell cried I, and thou heardest my voice." ( The belly of the fish would have been Jonah's grave, if God had not rescued him.)
Ecclesiates 3:19,20--"For that which befalleth the sons of men befalleth beasts; even one thing befalleth them: as the one dieth, so dieth the other; yea, they have all one breath; so that a man hath no preeminence above a beast: for all is vanity. All go unto one place; all are of the dust, and all turn to dust again."
( Humans and animals go to the same place when they die)
Revelation 1:18--"I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death." (Why would Jesus need keys to hell? Because the dead do not have to stay in hell forever; they can be resurrected back to life.)
Revelation 20:13-14--"And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death." (Hell delivers up the dead, meaning a resurrection from the grave), and what happens to death & hell? They are thrown into the lake of fire, meaning total destruction.
God is love and tortures no one.
The price we pay for being born imperfect sinners is that we all die, but as seen above, our enemy death will soon be no more. --"And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away."__Revelation 21:4

I'm sure you'll get the whole talk about, "But men choose hell."

The simple fact is, no matter how many sins a man commits, the offense is finite because he is finite. Hell is an infinite punishment for a finite offense. This is not just OR loving.

So even were there a god, I'd have no fear of hell. Given time, I'd be out and in heaven.

My question exactly. Of course, the God of the Old Testament is completely different from the God in the New Testament. So, man created God. Man created Hell to scare women into submission.

Hell is anywhere God is not, therefore the creation of Hell lies with someone else, the possibility of Hell exists, just like th possibility of evil in man.

Hell can also be described as a state of existence when one is separated from GOD.
