I was raiding my freezer this morning when I came across a packet of fish fillets that had the sell by date of April ’06. Just wondered if it is still ok to eat, or shall I throw it away?

It’s one of them fish, where it comes in a plastic packet with some source in it & you boil it for 20 mins. etc

Six months is the rule of thumb for meats in your freezer such as chicken or beef.

Not sure about fish. If you have a company name, they generally have toll-free numbers that you can ask.

There's always the CFSAN, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's Center for Food Safety And Nutrition.

Please call the CFSAN Outreach and Information Center at 1-888-SAFEFOOD.

If it was in the freezer all this time it is probably okay to eat...
Remember fresh date can be later than sell by date....

If it has been frozen this whole time i don't think it will kill you but it may not taste as good. not spoiled but the longer they are in the freezer they lose taste and nutrition.

I wouldn't eat it, just to be on the safe side. Fish can be fishy.

If it smells bad once it is unthawed I would trash it.
