Beginning from January 1, 2000, all DVD players should be using hardware system to control region codes. Your computer DVD player can change region code four times. If your software doesn't automatically ask you if you want to change the code, you may need to use the help guide of your DVD software application.

After the fifth code is selected, you loose your option to change it. A service technician can reset it to allow four more changes.

Virtually all DVD disks sold in the U.S. have a region code bit so you can rarely find any disk that has no code bit. Even then, some players have a "no code bit lock" that prevents playing disks with no region code. To get around all this you would need to hack the formware of the player or buy a player that is made in a country and sold in that country that does not honor the region code regulation such as China.
