After all, religion is often based on having faith in something that doesn't have evidence to back it up. What makes so many people so convinced that they're right and that everyone else is wrong?

Too many seem to have the idea of what is right and perfect for them, must there for be right and perfect for everyone. As this is not so it causes problems when such ideas clash.

All religion are wrong. A religion is where you have to do a work to have salvation. Grace is where God has done something for you as a free gift. The Lord Jesus Christ died on the cross for our sins, He was buried and took our sins away and He rose again for our justification. Salvation is based on grace through faith and not of works. Believe and trust in what He done for you. Ephesians 2: 8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Ephesians 2: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast. Romans 3: 22 Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference:

What do you expect them to say, their religion is wrong? If you are in a religion you are in it because you think it's the right one. If you say it doesn't matter which one and all are OK, then you open the door to many unanswerable questions

I have evidence.

It's a relationship and not "religion". I don't like religion. I'm a non-denominational Christian. I choose Christ. I am educated and was a bit wild as a teenager. I've tasted that cup and I don't want it anymore. I choose Jesus!

Because we experience Jesus and His love in our day-to-day life. That is sufficient evidence for many of us.

Wouldn't be faith if they admitted the possibility that they're wrong.

But they must be right, otherwise they have invested in something they see as 'losing'. Fragile egos and fear, this leads to the intolerance.
