If you want hair to grow faster, you have to take supplements that work on your body chemistry to support hair's growth and strength at its genesis.....once it has grown out, it is just dead keratin
Try GNC, they make a supplement called "Nourishair" in formulas for men and women..they are HUGE pills and you have to take 2 daily. There is also a "Hair skin and nails" formula from Andrew Lessman that you can google, that has great ingredients and is easier to swallow, made by ProCaps labs. You can also take large doses of Biotin, sometimes called Vitamin H, take no less than 2500 micrograms daily to support healthy hair growth. It may take 6 to 8 weeks to see results.

Hair Growth Vitamins

Hair loss or baldness is caused mainly due to the lack of Vitamin B supplements. Vitamin B5 contains pantothenic acid and B3 (niacin that is vital for hair growth). B6 is equally important to the body, as it contains the nutrients of zinc, sulfur, magnesium and biotin.

An interesting fact about Vitamin B: Certain experiments were conducted with rats and they were fed with food that lacked magnesium supplements. It was found that they lost their hair in bunches and when they were provided with a low biotin diet they turned hairless. But to the surprise of all, their hair returned when they were fed with food rich in Vitamin B. Similar studies were conducted on men and it was found that Vitamin B enriches the quality of hair. The body also requires Vitamin A. Fatty acids such as primrose oil, flaxseed oil or salmon oil need to be consumed for enhancing hair growth.

Vitamin E is meant for stimulating the oxygen intake in the body and improves the blood circulation. If there is proper blood circulation, hair growth is enhanced. Vitamin C assists the normal functioning of capillaries that carries the blood to the scalp. Even zinc is an important supplement, which should be consumed as it assists hair growth.

Biotin is necessary for hair growth. There are many sources of biotin such as brewer's yeast, brown rice, bulgur, green peas, lentils, oats, soybeans, sunflower seeds, and walnuts. It is present in some shampoos, so you can use shampoos, which contain biotin. It is advised to consult a physician before taking any vitamins or medications for hair growth.

Wash hair good and making sure that it is clean. Some women develop a rich foamy lather all over their head and let it sit for 3-5 minutes and then rinse it out (it's very effective for cleaning scalp and hair). Make sure hair is conditioned whether you use deep conditioner and rinse or use a leave-in. Also make sure you get your hair trimmed every 4-8 weeks (I do every 6) and do away with any split ends. Scalp massages are optional to help blood circulate throughout the scalp which stimulate the scalp nerves and may contribute to hair growth (I try to do 1-2 a week for about 5 or 10 min.) As for nutrition, a healthy diet and exercise are the best. Taking multi-vitamins in my past experience has not done much for my hair growth than normal exercise and eating right. My hair still grew at its normal rate of no more than 1/4-1/2 inch each month if i took care of it. Vitamins are good for people who may not be eating as healthy as they should because it makes up for anything that might be missing. If you take care of your hair (avoiding harsh chemicals and too many heating appliances), and you exercise or eat healthy--your hair should be growing and healthy. Since I made up my mind to start taking care of myself and my hair right, I notice new hair growth every month. And my hair is so healthy and has a natural shine. I used to make so many mistakes with my hair as a teenager which was why it was getting so short and thinning. now I am grown and a couple of years ago i met a friend who had hair down her back. she told me everything i was doing wrong and the things i should be doing. For instance, I was using cheap and wrong combs and brushes. I didn't use a good product to prevent breakage or heat damage. I used to perm every month and not just the new growth. I didn't cut split ends or trim hair every couple of months. I used grease instead of leave-in conditioner. I could go on for days.....Now my hair is much healthier and in shape. I wish you success too.

Answers from Christa are so very right and correct.
I too am licensed hairdresser & I picked up a valuable hint from my Granny one day as we were talking about hair-pretty hair -pretty long hair & how to speed up the growth the way they did 100 yrs ago w/o these products today, yet we need the products of today to intense our results.
I started practicing this "remedy" 15 yrs ago on my hair, then my clients noticed and I told them my old wives tale & I use it on myself. After that, I posted in my shop "ask me how to make your hair grow faster". I got customers from several counties away for my service & all it is.... is a hair trim w/the calendar, followed by the signs of "best hair cutting days". You have to have a calendar or an old farmers almanac book for the year current, being 2006. Next you look for pages that say signs & best times to plant, cut hair, etc. This chart will be together on one page to find your answer.
You will need a calendar & my calendar that gives all these signs & almanac help hints is from my Bank & always available from end of year into the 1st couple months of new year.
Here the signs to get a hair trim to make it grow faster:
Thighs, feet, legs & reins. I write these 4 signs on each month of calendar, then on that day I write cut hair & know if I wanna cut / trim my hair that day.
Only cut about 1/2 inch off, & only do it every other month, next thing you know you have tresses longer. Just trim ends,no need to do a full head hair cut.

There is a shampoo called Nioxin, it smells very peppermint and sometimes stings on scalp but I swear it works! Make sure to get it at a salon, if you buy it in a drug store it will not be the same product.
