The new testament is clearly replete with instances where Jesus himself promises to answer prayers "Ask and it shall be given you, knock and it shall be opened blah blah blah.... Was he lying?

I suppose, this 'Lil piggy will be bacon before they receive the answer they are looking for.
I am not a Christian but I do pray. I pray for a lot of things and receive an answer to all my prayers. It may not be the one I'm looking for and I may not like it but if you truly believe in a higher power than you believe that, this higher power, knows exactly what they are doing!
If you pray for money and riches and don't receive them, did it ever occur to you that you may not receive them because the Higher Powers believe you are not ready for them?
If you pray for patience, more than likely you will receive your answer in the form of something that will build your patience over time by giving you more things to be impatient about. If you pray for a love you may find that you are given a cat or a dog or a bird instead of a girlfriend or boyfriend. This is probably because they realize you are not able to handle anything more, again, at this time in your life.
Prayer, to me, is two things, speaking one on one with someone or something greater than myself when I can't speak to another human or my cat. And, to ask and to thank, the Powers that Be, for things that will help me grow as a person or things that have helped me grow as a follower.
Stop looking at prayer like it's a 'Wish List' and start looking at it as a part of your faith builder. Your speaking to a greater power, if you were a greater power and a selfish, self absorbed, arrogant, money hungry, thinking only of himself, asked you for something that would only make him even worse, would you give it to him? If you really cared, you wouldn't!

Have a great day!

Not in the least. Sometimes the answer is yes, sometimes no, and even sometimes, later. But all prayer is answered, but a lot of the times, in ways we don't expect. Be careful what you pray for, you might get it and have to live with it the rest of your life. Jesus promised to fulfill our needs, not our greeds.

Maybe the answer you got isn't the answer that you wanted.

I think that the most powerful & appropriate paryer we can pay is for understanding the will of God. We can pray for a baby or that someone survives an illness or accident. However, its Gods will that is going to be done. Not ours. Its deffinatley a challenge, and its ok to be mad at God (really mad even!) But to pray for understanding of Gods will aligns us with Divinity.
Jesus wasnt lieing. Its our perception of the answer (or lack of an answer) is what can be difficult.

Hang in there!

Jesus hears all of our prayers, yet he doesn't continually provide us what we want. the answer might want to be No, no longer Now, definite... and so on.... patience is the perfect answer. improve up, paintings flat out and purchase your human being pony!

Jesus promised to hear our prayers, but that doesn't mean we automatically are going to get everything we asked for. God gives us what is best for us, which quite often is not what we are hoping for.

Well, do you know Him? Does He know you? He answers my prayers. That's like you asking my granddad for $1000. You never talk to him and he doesn't know you. You think he's going to give it to ya?
