Do you have anybody in your life who you're close to? It helps. I mean if all you have are casual friends and aquaitences, of course youre not gonna show them the real you. It all comes down to fear of rejection i think. We're afraid that if people saw who we really are they wouldnt like us so we keep our true selves hidden. Its a defense mechanism but it also keeps you isolated and prevents you from forming a connection with somebody.. I think everybody needs at least one person in the world who you can be the real you with. The world can be a cold empty place otherwise. I can say this stuff thats all....... i cant tell you how to go about finding someone who you can be yourself with, easier said than done eh. sorry. Good luck.

Maybe you have low self esteem and feel like the real you isn't good enough for others, so you put up a front. Why not use your spare time to concentrate on improving your skills in areas like school, work, a hobby or sport, etc. Trust me, it sounds lame but your confidence will increase and you'll no longer feel the need to put on a front.

Well Hammy, You're name makes me wonder if this is a real question or not...

But I take it as honest...If you feel fake...you are probably ACTING fake with people. Afraid to show your real self, huh? Rejection is a scary thing, but acceptance is bliss. Take a risk with some people you trust and start talking, walking, and being real!! You might like it...not feel fake...(and other's will probably like it too!

It is not uncommon to set up your guard against some of the cruel people out there, however , there is a llimit. Try to trust other people a little more because some people are nice. I hope this helps.
At least you know who you are when you are alone. Some people just concentrate better when they are alone and there is nothing wrong with that.

I read your other questions too. These are symptoms of a personality disorder. When some mechanism of personality isn't working, such as empathy, then interaction with other people becomes difficult. I recommend that you seek professional help from a psychologist, for starters. It may be as simple as talking with a professional.

I have just the opposite--I'm fairly certain that I'm the only real person out there. You are all just figments of my imagination.

Hmm...does that make me kind of sociopathic?

I guess it's rude to ask a question to answer a question. But you're not real, so I guess it doesn't matter.

When you are by yourself, get to know you better, identify the good and acceptable qualities and gradually introduce that to people you trust. Also recognize your dark side and work with it. Growing up means growing out of it..good luck
