She has been an US permanent resident for more than five years. She applied for citizenship about a month ago. Has anybody applied to become an US citizen before? Where could I find more information about it?

Thanks

The "average" is between 6 and 9 months, but depending, can take up to 1 year.

Has she received her receipt yet? You can go to uscis.gov and click on the link for time processing. You can check the time its taking now for your service area, and the application number is I400. This normally takes about 6 months. If she has a clean record and red flags don't come up she should be OK. good luck!
