Books are always a good choice. They can be read and passed along to other soldiers. By the way, anyone stationed in Iraq is in the combat zone even if they are not on daily patrols. I salute your boy friend and his comrades serving this country.

Unfortunately I know what you need to send, because my son was there: he is in greatest danger just going from here to there in their underarmored trucks. Send him a $70 helmet that you can get from www.veteransforpeace.com or go to a police supply store and buy him a C-3 vest that will stop an AK-47 round. The ones they're given can stop a 22, but that's about all.
Since head injuries from IEDs are the most 'popular' injury, those helmets are very much needed. But be ready for the Government who 'supports our troops' until they need medical care for their PTSDs, their nightmares that will be with them until they die......to refuse death benefits if you send them the armor they need.

Send what he likes but is unable to get there. I have deployed twice....and always crave what I can't get, can't have or don't have. I have also sent packages to others...once I asked each to let me know one thing they wanted sent because they couldn't get there. Here are their answeres: Double Stuff Oreos, Jar of Marshmellow Fluff, Wheat Crackers, Dots (candy), Salted Nuts, Beef Jerky, Peanutbutter, flavored coffee (i.e., International House instant type), flavored t-bags, instant lemonaid mix and/or Gatoraid mix.
As you can see, there is quite a variety....send what you (should) know he likes :-)
NOTES: We also sent small table top trees and mini holiday decorations last year at Christmas time.
If sending chocolate or something that will melt, wrap in two layers of newspaper and it will arrive fine.
Oh...and no glass or alcohol.

twin sheets & pillow cases - freshly laundered with a sheet of fabric softner
socks!
microwave foods (check first)
coffee drinker?!?!? AND access to a microwave - a french press coffee pot and starbucks. all they need is hot/boiling water and wha-lah freshly brewed coffee
dental floss picks
copy of a baseball game and peanuts in the shell
copy of a football game and buffalo flavored pretzels
BREAKFAST -- ready to serve bacon, summer sausage, cocktail bread, mini muffins, mandarin oranges.....
footballs
baseballs
frisbee's
--- things like that or even the koosh
handsanitizer
slippers!
my guys were in haditha and kuwait they had access to a microwave. they really enjoyed the sheets and pillow cases! don't have to be brand new as they really use and toss them - washing machines aren't readily available but....
you may want to send something to your BF too that he can share with his team. playing cards/uno - things like that too. but i always like to send a small box in the bog box for the person sending and then the other stuff they can share with the rest of the guys -- no matter what - they have to stick together and sharing things are the best!!!
Tell him - thanks and I'm praying for him and every one there - AND thankfull for all they do!!!
God Bless

God bless your boyfriend for his service.
Alice B., from reading all 12 of your posts on this site, you sound like another Cindy Sheehan wanna-be. Your comments are not welcome here.
Shana_Tim, I'm sure your guy would love some nice pictures from you!
Take care!

Some sexy Polaroids are always welcome... MP3's of his favorite music... and home made treats are more special than store bought.
