A basket of fruit and fresh veggies and through in a bunch of flowers-fall type colors with a nice thank you note. Or, instead of a basket, cut out a pumpkin and place the flowers in the pumpkin.

It sounds like a busy time of year for you. As someone suggested, 7.5-8 months sounds good. It sounds like you may have to combine weekends with something. Perhaps on a different day of the thanksgiving weekend (that you're not having a big turkey dinner). Maybe the shower could even be baby-thanksgiving themed? Might make for a unique idea. I fear you sharing the day with your daughters birthday though. I'm not sure how aware of it she'd be right now since she is only 2 years but she is going to have to be sharing a lot, including her time available with you, in the near future. Perhaps doing it on the same day may not be the best for that reason? Give her one last big day of her own. Although, the day before or after her bday celebration may work. I've also been to a couple of showers that were in the evening on a weekday since it can be so challenging to find a weekend day that accommodates everyone.

You have to give gifts now? A well written thank you would do I think. Personally I think the whole written thank you thing is out of control, I would much rather receive a verbal thank you anyway. The "proper" thing to do is write a thank you.

After my shower, I sent my sister a big bouquet of flowers with a thank-you note. 1800 flowers has some very cute arrangements.
