Basically, that those that say they are Christians (Christ abides in them) ought also to walk the past of Christ.
While not a Christain, I can certainly accept this passage, as I also try to follow the examples of Christ. Moreso then, those who claim him as God and Savior ought to put their money, time and talent where their mouths are, feeding his sheep and shepherding his flock.
As I hold myself up to my own beliefs, I also look to Christians to do the same.

To be Christ-like. This is a very hard thing for us sinners to measure up to given the influence of the world. Peace

My words: If you are going to profess the name of Christ in your life, you best be prepared to live your life consistent with Christ's own walk, that you don't make yourself into a fool and lead believers and unbelievers astray!
Further read, which I find interesting:
2:3-11 What knowledge of Christ can that be, which sees not that he is most worthy of our entire obedience? And a disobedient life shows there is neither religion nor honesty in the professor. The love of God is perfected in him that keeps his commandments. God's grace in him attains its true mark, and produces its sovereign effect as far as may be in this world, and this is man's regeneration; though never absolutely perfect here. Yet this observing Christ's commands, has holiness and excellency which, if universal, would make the earth resemble heaven itself. The command to love one another had been in force from the beginning of the world; but it might be called a new command as given to Christians. It was new in them, as their situation was new in respect of its motives, rules, and obligations. And those who walk in hatred and enmity to believers, remain in a dark state. Christian love teaches us to value our brother's soul, and to dread every thing hurtful to his purity and peace. Where spiritual darkness dwells, in mind, the judgment, and the conscience will be darkened, and will mistake the way to heavenly life. These things demand serious self-examination; and earnest prayer, that God would show us what we are, and whither we are going.

He that saith he abideth in Him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.
Abide in His Love & His Word. That is walking in Christ. Not walking after the things of the sin nature, but walking after the things of God & holiness. The old man is dead & the new man alive in Christ.

"Whoever claims to live in him must walk as Jesus did."
Good one. How can we call ourself a chrisitian if we aren't even following his teachings or making the effort to put the bible into practice?

That we are to live like Jesus did, especially if we are claiming to be one of His followers. Excellent point.
