If you have a male boss, describe, in detail, that you have a really heavy period it is flooding and you don't want to make a mess of the office. Otherwise back pain is a good one as no-one can prove otherwise.
Do you have any elderly relatives? Maybe one of them had to go to hospital and you need to be with them....

if you are wanting to take the day off and need to call 8 hours in advance you can tell them you just woke up with a migraine headache and now you are nauseated and the lights make it worse if you plan on going shopping or something dont go where anyone you work with will see you migraine you wont have to get a dr note for

okay , please don't use a relative are any form of the dead relative, because Karma is vengeful. You wouldn't want that actually to manifest would you? but there have been some funny suggestions posted . I would say there was a mix up with the cable company and you have to be home to let the repairman in( everyone knows the cable company gives you a window of like 8 hrs before they even show up) have fun playing hooky, just don't get caught .

Most of the stuff I would use is generally last minute stuff (dead car, sick, etc). For that much notice, I would say a dead relative would probably work, or an important appointment (or project if you're still in school) that you forgot about would do the trick. Just remember, keep it simple and remember that someone will probably ask about whatever it was when you come back.

Call in with the stomach flu. If you mention that "it's coming out of both ends" the other person is usually so grossed out they don't argue at all.

Don't you have personal days? Let employer know you need a personal day to, I don't know, help a sick family member, need to wait for repairman etc...

Tell them its that time of the month and you don't think you should move. Tell them the doctor says so and so does your mom. Or have your mom to call in and tell them your sick it always works.

Um, I'm going to be sick, my dog ran away, someone stole my car, oh yes, my alarm clock didn't go off. lol Good luck playing hooky from work.
