Why would you litter? Anywhere? OK, I can understand if you really do roll your own, that's going to biodegrade. But filtered? Yuck! Even in the street, it is likely going to end up going down the storm drains and then wind up "floating" in the streams, creeks, and lakes. And then poisoning the aquatic life with asbestos and other junk. Give me a break, that's just rude and obnoxious.

It certainly isn't acceptable to drop them on the floor. I'm a heavy smoker and I admit there has been times when I've casually dropped a dog end but on the whole I'll carry it to a bin. Increasingly smokers are forced to smoke outside but I don't think there are many places where there are not bins somewhere in the vaccinity. I understand that smoking smells, it is bad for you and those around you therefore it should only be done in places where others can choose to be around you. I would not throw litter on the floor and view my finished cigarette as such. Dropping *** ends increases the opinion that smoking is a flithy habbit at a time where it is becoming more and more socially unacceptable.

On the whole I put my *** ends in the bin, but unfortunately its not always possible. I live in Scotland where the smoking ban started in March and businesses and councils were actively encouraged NOT to provide smoking areas for employees etc. In my city there has been no extra bins provided and nothing has been done to accomodate the increased number of people smoking outside. So while I agree that its wrong to drop ANY litter on the street I dont think you can blame individual people. As a country we have to take action and provide more bins, cigarette butt collector things etc.

I smoke and when I have finished a cigarette outside I try to throw it away down a street grate with the run off water and other rubbish, but if I am in the country side I stub it out and put it back in the packet so as not to leave rubbish in the country side.

Nope. Smoking is a personal choice. Doesn't mean that we smokers have the right to treat the world around us like it's our personal ashtray. Besides, I heard of someone tossing a butt out the window of their car, and got caught by the littering police. That butt costs this person $500.

Would you drop your burger wrapper or an empty juice box on the floor?
It's the same thing, litter is litter, garbage is garbage. Cigarette butts are garbage... it's just that ppl think cuz they are so small no one will mind. It all boils down to our values
...no i'm not a smoker

If you drop them in the street to stub them out, you should then pick them up and find a bin.
One hot summer I was walking a few yards behind someone who threw a butt into a garden. By the time I got up to there, some pampas grass was on fire. I went up the path, knocked on the door and had to wait for them to answer. By that time, the fire had taken hold so much that I couldn't get back down the path. We all had to hide in the house and wait for the fire brigade to arrive. They came in minutes, but it was scary how quickly it happened. And the smoker never even knew...

When I was a smoker I used to feel so guilty for dropping my butt ends on the street. I would look around to see if anyone was watching first

I unfortunatley smoke (trying to pack in). But I would never dream of throwing butt ends on the pavement nor would I drop litter. This is just rude and lack of manners and respect for other people - So is smoking in a public place
