The main function of fat is energy. Energy is taken from the fat. THe leftover is stored in the body.

The function of fat is to store energy. Think of it as an Energy Savings Account. In case there is a famine or shortage of food---your body automatically stores energy in fat. Too much fat means that you are eating foods that have a large fat or caloric content. If you reduce those, then you reduce your fat accumulation. If you miss a meal or meals then your fat is burned into energy--providing sustenance for the body to operate---but please do not try this.

To store energy. Calories. In case we have a famine. It is my own personal opinion, I haven't read this anywhere, that the older we get, the more efficient our body becomes in storing fat. For this reason. We are a product of out caveman genes. Hunter-gatherer societies. When we are young, we can run fast and catch our next meal fairly easily. There is little need to store energy reserves in the form of fat. When the caveman got older, he couldn't chase down game and had to depend on others to bring him food. He didn't eat as frequently so the body switched into the calorie-saving mode. That's why it supposedly gets harder to lose weight the older you get. So now, if you're older and need to lose the weight, you have to exercise like crazy to switch the fat-saving hormones back off and fool your body into thinking it's 25 again. Lot of work but worth it. I look way younger than I am.
