Is it right to kill a baby after 12 weeks gestation? unless there is a damn good reason for it.

I just wanted to say the reason i asked is because my son was born at 22 weeks and he will never be classed as alive or dead in the eyes of the law as people can still have their babies aborted at 24 weeks!!!
My son was fully formed but just didnt survive because he was to thin!
How dare anyone say he was never born!!!
I went through labour over two days with him.

THERE IS NEVER A GOOD REASON TO MURDER A CHILD... I DON'T CARE IF IT WAS LIFE OR DEATH BETWEEN ME AND MY CHILD... I WOULD BE THE ONE TO DIE DURING DELIVERY AND LET MY CHILD EXPERIENCE LIFE...MY CHILD WOULD HAVE HIS/HER DADDY TO RAISE HER... ABORTION IS BAD NO MATTER HOW FAR ALONG YOU ARE...

I think if there is a real reason for it, it is ok. And why 12 weeks? Why is that a "magical" number? A baby has a heartbeat before then. It also has a lot of other human features before 12 weeks. It's hard to say what is right and wrong with abortion because I believe it is a matter of personal choice. Now that said, although I think it is a personal choice, it is a choice that we have a right to have and should be treated as such. Abortion is not a means of birth control or a means to "get back" at somebody or used in any other way except in a case where the mother and/or the baby would be better off with the abortion. I will probably get a lot of people mad at me, but that's ok. If someone was brutally raped and they didn't find out they were pregnant till week 13 because their body was so torn apart, I think, yes, it would be ok to get the abortion in that circumstance.

Medically it is not a viable baby until 24 weeks, this is because if they were born before then they would not survive. Saying that, I would consider a 12 week old feotus to be a baby. I don't agree with abortion as a form of birth control and think it should only be used if: The baby is deformed/has problems, the mother is going to suffer being pregnant, the mother was raped.

At 6 weeks gestation, before most women even know they are pregnant, the baby has a heart beat. She is living and thriving and growing inside.
At 10 weeks, that little baby has her own finger prints. At around 14-16 weeks gestation, Mom can begin to feel her move inside. She is doing flips and turns and enjoying life.
I can't find a good reason to murder. Even if she has not been seen, it is unfair and unkind to take her tiny life away.

A lot of people have stated that in the case of life, the child should die, not the mother. As women, I don't understand why this is even an issue. We demand rights, but we don't fight for the right of a life living inside our bodies. What about the rights of the baby? Why doesn't she get a chance to live?

I don't agree with abortion when it is being used as a form of birth control, and if an abortion has to be done, then I feel the earlier the better (and less traumatic, I would imagine) - however, sometimes serious defects in the fetus cannot always be detected until around 12 weeks, then if that was the case, I think it would be acceptable, but for that reason only.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Of course he was a baby. I work with premature babies and have had babies survive at 22 weeks, it's rare but it does happen. Abortions can be performed up until 24 weeks here in California and I always thought that was so sick. Especially since these babies are issued death certificates, whether it's from abortion or just dying after birth.

I wouldn't have an abortion personally but i did think about it when i first found out. i would NEVER judge anyone for having and abortion as there doing whats right for them and the baby. I personally think whether the baby is 4 weeks or 24 weeks there still a baby.x

I dont think that there is any right reason for anyone to kill a baby. If you are pregnant then i believe that u should not even kill that baby. There is a reason for any life to be borned on this earth. Dont chose the fate of the baby but let fate decide itself!! although u may think well it is only 12 weeks in the tummy it cant feel nothing. it is still a living creature wairing to be born!!

Erm; using the word Kill is a very leading way to ask aquestion.

This is a debate that has gone on since 1967 when the law was introduced.

You will find a lot of people will have opposing views on this debate - all based around when the feotus becomes "Alive." Personally I think they have got it covered nicely as it is (24 weeks, then medical reasons only after that).

I'm so sorry that this happened to you its so sad. i personally couldn't say weather i would abort a child. but i think its up to the individual only the person/s going through the situation can make the decision. all-tho i do think that having an abortion just to get out of a pregnancy because a person was stupid enough to not take precautions is morally wrong

My heart goes out to you in your situation. You obvoiusly wanted and loved the child and to be deprived the chance to fully grieve the loss of your child is criminal.
I don't believe in abortion at any stage of pregnancy, but then I have never been in a situation to have needed to consider it so I do speak from complete blindness on the subject. However, I do think the age at which abortion is legal should be lowered, so that people in your situation can have the rights a grieving parent should be allowed.
