Gucci Girl has it wrong. American border guards can and do ask for ID on occassion, but proof of citizenship is good enough, and usually Canadian citizens just need picture ID, till next year. Time will tell. I doubt if the US and Homeland Security will get this passed, as the trade with Canada and the US is the largest trade of any 2 coutries on the globe, and business will hurt by new restrictions like this. I am a typical looking white guy and travel back and forth all the time and never been asked for ID.

No, Canadians do no longer % a visa to pass to in the u.s. at any time. besides, in the U.S., there is not any such subject as a transit visa sine 9-11. human beings from international places that do require a visa to be in the U.S. and who've a stop in the U.S. whilst traveling could desire to stay in a particular international waiting room on the airport.

No, a Visa is not required for just visiting; however you will need some sort of photo ID such as a Driver's Licence or your Health Card, etc. and your Birth Certificate is now needed (if you don't have a Passport) as you must show Proof of Citizenship. Starting in January 2007, you will require your Canadian Passport. See links to Govt. of Canada websites... (Visas are only if you intend to work in the US)

Not yet, the debate here in Canada and the US still goes on. Several new rules are being considered however It again seems it will soon be necessary to carry a passport. Right now you must have photo ID. Of course either way it will not solve the problem.

not now, all that is requiered is a form of ID showing that you are a Canadian citizen, I feel though that conservatives in the US might soon try to push the need of a visa on us soon though.
