It means, 'how are you?', or in literal translation- 'how goes it with you?'. A typical response to this would be 'es gehts mir gut', which means, 'i'm good', or 'it goes well with me'. You could also replace 'gut' with 'schlect' or 'nicht so gut' for 'bad' or 'not so good'. Hope this helps!

It's the formal version of how are you? or the real translation is how goes it you? You who idl say it to someone older than you or of a higher rank like your boss/teacher or someone.

Ok all of those answers are right and wrong. First is in big letters. Wie geht es dir? Thats the unformal form of asking someone How are you? You respond Mir geht es gut or Gut. Mir geht es nicht gut-Im not good. You ask Und Sie is the formal form. Und du is the not formal.

It means how are you. The normal response is "Gut, Danke" (good, thank you)
