Question:
What is the wisdom behind the Islamic prohibition on gambling?

Answer:

Praise be to Allaah.

Gambling is haraam because Allaah has forbidden it, and He rules as He wills. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“O you who believe! Intoxicants (all kinds of alcoholic drinks), gambling, al-Ansaab [sacrifices for idols, etc.] and al-Azlaam [arrows for seeking luck or decision] are an abomination of Shaytaan’s handiwork. So avoid (strictly all) that (abomination) in order that you may be successful......

Remember that when you win at gambling , someone else has lost .You took something that you didn't work for , that didn't belong to you ...that's organised and legalised theft , and theft is a sin and sin in the eyes of God will prevent you to enter heaven , left alone call on His name or pray...The punishment for Adam disobedience was to till the ground( work) ..you can't have the easy way nor appease you conscience by giving it away

typically, as a muslim, gambling is prohibited, & that includes lotteries, card game, & etc...
it is also not encouraged to buy charity tickets that you may win prizes, & if you do (as a muslim) buy it, it'll be good if you should donate your prize back to charity...

i think you might have to declare it - i know some organisations refuse to take money from gambling. i dont know, its a toughie... personally i might be tempted to not declare and just give it, that way the recipient is absolved of any dilemma as to taking it. you might as well put that ill-gotten money to some use!!
why - how much have you won?!!
