You can chat in Indian languages using yahoo messenger. To chat in Malayalam using yahoo messenger, in the instant messenger window select the font as 'MLKartika' and type the message on keyboard. One problem you may face is that you should know the keyboard layout. If you dont know the keyboard layout of Malayalam, you can use transliteration softwares. One of them you can find in http://www.writeka.com
Type the message in these softwares and copy-paste into IM window. But this is very difficult. To speak frankly, it is very difficult to IM in local languages.
