having a tooth removed is never fun. However, you will get over it, its not that bad.. They will give you some novacaine to numb it before they begin, however, if the top part of the tooth is not completely through the gum, it may be more complicated however, if they can get it out without putting you to sleep it will cost much less. They also give you some medicine to take home incase it does start hurting, it would be a good excuse to have a few days off of work... I had one removed about 4 years ago, it cost about 175 dollars. I however live in Oklahoma, and I realizie the cost of things are different everywhere. The best thing to do . would be to call a couple of different dentists' office and ask them what it costs. Good luck. I just re read this and realized I used the word "however" way too many times. I apologize, pleas over look my stupidity. :-)

Its not as bad as it sounds, to have a tooth pulled.
Most of the annoyance is from the novacaine, and the feeling afterwards. If its broken, or impacted it will most likely feel a lot better once its out.
Oral problems should be resovled ASAP. Your mouth is a filthy place, requardless of how well you keep it clean. A broken or impacted tooth is a breeding ground for a major infection. The blood vessels and arteries that end in your mouth are in a straight line to your heart. So the bacterial infection can spread from your teeth to your heart.

I had 4 of those suckers just like you described and I had them extracted at age 45! I'm very wise as a result..lol. There was nothing wrong with them except that they were pushing my other teeth too close. The extraction was quick, rather cheap and I had painkillers. However, I did get dry sockets, which were extremely painful. So be sure to ask your dentist about it. Go on, don't be a chicken! Godloveya!

I love it when someone tells me that their UPPER wisdom tooth has been bothering them "ever since it came in." We call these teeth "rollers" because they usually roll right out and take hardly any time inthe schedule at all. Usually. It is usually also a basic extraction without any extra for things that usually go with wisdom teeth, like trimming bone or suturing, etc. In my office, you'd need a $20 x-ray and a $115 extraction. Usually.

Well, usually wisdom teeth don't erupt completely, they can be impacting the molar next to it, in other words is coming crooked that is why you feel just half of the tooth.
An Oral surgeon performs this kind of extraction, you probably want to ask your insurance company about an oral surgeon and find out how much will be covered,(if you have ins). most of the time the oral surgeon will put you to sleep, and the cost can range from $300 to $700.
Hope it helps.

A septic or "dry" socket does not happen because a blood clot comes loose! The clot disappears because the patient gets food in the socket. The bacteria, that are common to the mouth, eat the food and multiply to larger numbers. When the food has been eaten and their numbers are huge, they eat what's left. That, of course, is the blood clot. This leaves the socket empty or "dry". Because the socket is empty, the bone is uncovered and that is where all the pain comes from. If you want to avoid a septic or "dry" socket, keep your mouth clean! The tars and other chemicals in a cigarette are not good for the healing process. And, in the short term, sucking on a cigarette causes suction on the extraction site and causes more bleeding. Our office actually tells patients not to suck on a cigarette or a straw for the first 24 hours.
