How do I block out noise at work, particularly a co-worker who keeps couching/clearing his throat?

I've successfully used noise reducing foam earplugs that you can buy in a pharmacy. They won't block out a fire alarm, but all conversation and extraneous noise. They're subler than noise-blocking headphones. You might need to tell a few people that you wear them, though, so they don't stand behind you saying your name in low tones and expect you to hear them.

Gum popping and other noises bother me. I've just told people that extraneous noises ruin my concentration and productivity, and that's why I wear them. It's never been an issue.

I've also used music headphones. Classical is nice.

It would seem like the greatest resolve would be to stomp over there and say oh just stop that! LOL

Perhaps bring them some water and ask them how they are feeling, sounds like they have a itchy thoat.

Unfortunatly if they are a smoker they will always do this.

Perhaps you can speak to someone who is able to relocate you to a more quieter environment. Maybe it bugs them too and the cougher will get relocated, LOL

Well not sure there is anything you can do to block this out, that is the bad thing about being in a cubicle. Maybe look at that co-worker when he does it lol he will get the hint that he is driving you insane!

Does your cube have a roof? If not, put one on. Do make sure you have enough lightning inside though. You could also add noise absorbing material onto the walls on your cubical.

Invest in an iPod and crank it up! The guy who I share cube wall with hums music to himself all day and I was going crazy until I got my iPod. It works so well!

You could listen to a radio or music via headphones. How about earplugs?

bose sound reducing headphones. I personally would die if i had to work in a cube. I feel for you!!!
