This presents 2 problems: 1) 600 million people believe that disobediant children should be executed 2) The other 1.4 billion believe that the bible is metaphorical and needs to be interpreted, but why on earth would god send the bible to man, as the only tool given to us to assist in entering heaven, and make it subject to man's personal and varied opinions?

Old Testament is history and "pre messiah", New testament is after the messiah (Jesus) came. I don't believe for one second that 600 million people believe that disobediant children should be punished and surely you do not either. People thought that by FOLLOWING Gods law, one could be assured of eternal life in Heaven, but NOONE can do that because noone is perfect and that is exactly what they would have to be. Jesus and the Apostles taught that the purpose of the law was to reveal our sin nature to us and show us our need for a savior, someone to pay the fine for our sins. It's really quite simple, you break the law on earth, you are fined, you break Gods law, you are fined. His fine is death, Jesus PAID that fine and if you will turn from the life of crime and recieve that payment, you WILL be saved. It does not mean that you will completely stop sinning from that point on, but you have turned from the life of WILLINGLY and HABITUALLY sinning. There is not one single commanment of Gods that doesn't carry risks dangerous to your life, health, and wellfare when broken.

God has never changed His mind about anything, If one will just read the Old Testament thouroughly, then one can see quite plainly that the same message is in the old and new testaments. I see the question about killing disobediant kids the other day STILL has people talking. When the scriptures were written, you must realize they were written without numbers and chapters. The numbers and chapters were added to help one find certain statements and such in the Bible. When someone quotes a scripture from the Bible you must follow what I call the 20/20 rule, that is to read the 20 verses or more before and after that particular verse so you get the correct context of what is being said. God is simply stating the severity of the law. One of the commanments is to honor your father and mother, if one strikes their father and mother, that is surely not honoring them, so they have broken the law and the fine is death. Commiting adulterey is a sin also, and Jesus to stress to point about sin said that whosoever looks upon another with lust has already commited adulterey in their heart. Nowhere in the Bible do you ever see where anyone ever killed a child for striking their parents. God was just trying to show the severity of sin, its consequences, and result. One day some people were about to stone a woman (Mary Magdeline) to death for adulterey, which according to the law, she deserved, when Jesus said "let he who is without sin, cast the first stone". Well they all knew very well that they had all commited some kind of sin in their life so not a one could throw a stone and she was spared. The Law (commandments) point to our sin to SHOW us what sin is, and that ALL have sinned. I hope this answers your question. Peace.

In the new testament it says in 1 Peter 1:16 "We did not follow cleverly invented stories when we told you about the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty." Most of the bible was history written down & what people say happen that they wanted to share with others. Today, the bible is not the only tool that gets us to heaven. We now have people who have experienced God in their lives and so they can tell others by word of mouth and by the way they live their lives differently. They are lights shining in the darkness.

From what I can read it looks like he killed himself in 1 Sa 31:4-6 in the sense he was a participant in his own death.(suicide) In 2 Sa 1:2-10 It sounds like Saul wanted to make sure he didn't fail in his attempt, so he enlisted Amalekite to make sure the deed was complete by having this person stand on him once pierced so there was no backing out. Like an assisted suicide. (Just more details) 2 Sa 21:12 This is why he commit suicide, he couldn't defeat the Philistines, he couldn't cope with that, so they are the cause (reason) for his suicide. 1 Ch 10:13-14 The way I understand this is that he sought out evil instead of relying on God, going to Fortune tellers, When you turn away from God and toward the Devil, it is your own spiritual suicide, God didn't do it, but you reap the reward of sin, and the wages of sin are death. For all of your choices there are consequences. Choose God and live, or by default you reject him and cause your own death. Regarding where Aaron died, not a problem, When someone asks me where I was born I might say Chicago. To another I might say Cook County, to another I might say Illinois, then to another depending on where I am, I might even say United States of America. Many times they are all the same place, it is just specifics. Mount Hor is a mountain on the border, which means coast sometimes, even though there is no water involved, it is the way they spoke. It was in the land of Hor, where the Horites lived on th

The word of God is infallable!

Hebrews 4:12-13
12For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. 13Nothing in all creation is hidden from God's sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.

--Did you know that even the demons know the scriptures and tremble?

--Also about the Old Testament- it is the Word of God- but I think many people forget that since CHRIST has come- the times are not the SAME as they were back then. We do not stone people or kill children! But Christ has come with GRACE and this is a period of grace....God is merciful. The Old Testament has So much to teach us and we do learn from it- Its amazing what an in depth bible study can teach you when you RELY On the HOLY SPIRIT~

Well, when you say "literally," bear in mind that the vast majority of those people simply cherry-pick whatever portions of the bible appeal to their sentimentality and take THOSE portions literally, ignoring the rest.

Hence Leviticus gets quoted a lot when we're trying to hate gay people for existing, but nobody ever brings up the fact that we've all stopped slaughtering oxen to Jehovah. You aren't supposed to wear clothes made of two different kinds of fabric; you're allowed to own slaves from other countries, etc.

No-one takes everything in the Bible literally, though many fundamentalist sects do take many things literally that were never meant to be taken literally. If someone claims to take every word of the Bible literally, I ask them if they have all their body parts. The Bible tells us if our hand or foot causes us to sin we should cut it off and throw it away, and if our eye causes us to sin we should pluck it out. So apparentlyeven the most fundamentalist of Christians don't take this passage literally. And then there are the passages that Catholics take literally while no Protestants do, such as the words of Christ at the Last Supper, "This IS My Body; This IS My Blood".

He didn't leave it up for varied opinions. That is why he gave one man the key to the kingdom to bind and loose in heaven. While men may come up with different interpretations of the word IS, Christ instituted the Church as the pillar and foundation of Truth (not the Bible alone) see 1Tim 3:15 and built it upon one man whose authority has been passed on to each of his successors.

God Bless,

Good qu. It also means 30% believe eating shellfish is an abomination......where are those prawns?!
They interpret it so they can bend the rules to suit themselves and make it more relevant to todays lifestyles, but surely that is saying God is wrong?

Just stay away, you will never win with Christians...
