HELP!

I have to give a speech at my best friend's wedding Saturday. I want it to be fun and sweet (but not romantic and cheesy, not my style) any suggestions? (No poems please. I could not read that for my sake or the bride's, she'd kill me.)

FYI- My speech has to be good. Here's why. The groom's friends all decided they were going to quit on him about a week ago. He got some guys to fill in, but none close enough to give a speech. Back story or not If the bride is your best friend talk about the things that make you best friends., Tell a story of something stupid or funny the two of you did when you were hanging out together. Tell how much you will miss her now that she has a husband but how you will try to stay close and be ther for her. just tell the truth but keep it light.

Honey I can tell you from experience to at least write yourself some guide lines. I was the maid of honor in my best friends wedding (we have been friends for 26 years) and if I didn't have my speech written down I'm not sure anything would have come out of my mouth. I am very shy and it is really hard for me to get up and talk in front of people. If you are the same way, then I suggest you write a speech. Just because it was written down doesn't mean it wasn't from the heart. I think it just shows the time and preparation you went through to make your toast special. I can't give you advice on what to say all I can tell is to go with your heart.
My speech went something like this...

"For everyone here that knows Crystal and I, you know we have been friends all of our lives. There isn't a story we don't know about each other or a time of sorrow we haven't been there for each other or a time of happiness missed between us. We are more that best friends we are sisters and now I welcome you Eddie (her husband) to be my brother. I wish you both all the happiness a lifetime can give and all of the love it offers as well. To Crystal and Eddie may you marriage be one written in fairytales."

Hope this helps you out. Break a leg.

Whatever you do, please please PLEASE don't try too hard to be funny. Don't get up there and rattle off a list of embarrassing (potentially incriminating) things you two have done in the past, even if they're just hilarious. Your best friend will be sitting up there that day, loking more beautiful than she's ever looked, and the last thing she'll want is a dramatic retelling of the night you guys went skinny dipping and got caught by the cops (or whatever.) Also, don't poke fun at her in your toast- it's a wedding, not a roast. Just stick to a basic toast in celebration of friendship, compliment the lovely couple on how great and happy they look together, and wish her all the happiness in the world.

Here's the rule you should always follow:

NEVER write out a speech. You can know what subject you're going to speak about, but never plan what you're going to say.

Any speech that you have to write out is not worth giving. It has to be sincere in the moment, and coming from within. A written speech is a form of dishonesty. If you can't speak from your heart according to what comes to you in the moment, do not give that speech at all, ever.

Most people won't be able to understand this, but some will.

Girl, This has to come from ur heart. Do not write it down nor try to memorize anything. When ur at the wedding all old time memories will run through ur mind. How u guys cried and laughed together. When it's time ur mind won't speak, ur HEART will. Good luck
