I've heard fear interpreted as respect. Unless you have orginal scriptures and know exactly what the writer intended to say, no one really knows. But if are supposed to truly fear a god, then he should not be worshipped.

I won't even give you Scripture references. As you already know, the Bible talks about "fearing" God, and many understand that as meaning simple "respect".
Fear can be both a healthy and unhealthy thing. If you believe it is possible for the all'powerful and creator God to be angry, then it is possible to realistically fear him - I mean here being terrified. That's different from respect.
I can respect people who don't frighten me in the least. But I both respect and fear God. At the same time I love Him and feel safe in Him. I fear Him in the sense that I have some idea of what He can do, and I won't "mess" with that!
To respect someone is to recognize their right to exist, to think the way they think, to humbly recognize they have as much worth as you do, it can include putting others first.
You can have extra respect for someone who you feel behaves in an exemplary way - respect their leadership, their courage, etc. You can have respect for a person because of their position ' that is respect their position, not so much the person. for instance if the head of state had behaviour that I strongly disapproved of, I might have less respect for him as a person than I might for sommeone else - but I would continue to respect the position he represents.
So I both fear and respect Gods, and I respect people in varying degrees.

Fear has two meanings. One is to revere and one is to be afraid. It all depends on how it is used. Example " The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge." Also "It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God."
Respect is different from fear in that respect shows acceptance of one having equal or greater authority as yourself. I respect my in-laws because they have experienced more in life than I have.
God is no respecter of persons. The reason is obvious. Who else created everything? He blesses the righteous and the unrighteous.
For me personally, I fear the Lord in love and reverence. I respect my pastor for his example.

I am of the Catholic Faith. Here is something that I read every day in a book of daily prayers & quotes for help & guidance that I have accumulated from various sources (The Bible, prayers etc...). "Where God's love is, there is no fear. God's perfect love takes away fear. It is punishment that makes a person fear. Anyone who has fear does not have perfect love." In my personal opinion, Faith in our beliefs, is what differentiates between Fear and Respect.

Pagan, with strong Wiccan influence.

If you're talking about respect versus fear in regards to the Deity - I respect and honor the God and Goddess because I want to, because I am thankful for Their presence in my life, and because to me it is the natural thing to do. Not out of fear of what would happen to me if I didn't.

Am I doing it because they're going to seek revenge on me if I don't? No. And on the course of my Path I have actually turned away from Them a couple of times, and didn't have to worry that suddenly I was "damned". I came back and re-opened myself to my spirituality because it spoke to me and because I wanted to.

I'm a Muslim.

I believe respect is when a person submits himself to God, accepts His Greatness, and believes in the teachings of a certain a religion, knowing that they are good and virtuous.

Fear of God is part of your respect for Him. For example, when you respect a person (by no means am I comparing God to a person), you will be afraid of what they think of you and you'd want them to think the best of you.

If you are truly lost, then take a class on Comparative Religion. It will be a good backbone for learning all the customs and doctrines of most major religions. Then take that information and apply it to your life.

The bible says the word fear and believers say it means respect but have nothing to back it up and cann't explain how you can love someone and fear them too.
