I'm not really comfortable approaching him either so what can I do without being too obvious to see if he's interested and to kinda give him the hint that it would be ok for him to approach me?

I am in the same dilemma with a new guy 'friend' - I want to make clear that I'm interested without obviously throwing myself at him LOL. Sorry I have no advice, just know you're not the only one.
BTW I am 28 and he's 31 and I feel like an awkward teenager all over again. Kinda fun though :)

well qaccording to your problem with a guy if he is too shy then one person has to take a step in the right direction, but as to your title question... yes men are shy cause who wants to be made the fool, say u like a girl and she is friendly but to an extent, most likely girls want us to make the move, and i know many girls that are simpily friends that dont want anything more than friendship giving me looks like, she wants my dikk, but its not true so men cant act on all signs cause women are ******** confusing

OK if you don't want to ask him out another person will or he will be interested in another person.
Just ask him out. Be your self if he do not like it then you try. Failure is not a bad thing and dating is a learned skill.
Find your self... to try new things and go in with gun blazing...figuratively.
