Book into the Marriot Hotel at Alwalton near Peterborough. Nearby is the Ferry Meadows country park. A few miles up the Road is the historic and piteresque village of Fotheringay the and the site of the castle where Mary queen of Scots was imprisoned and executed. Peterborough itself has a wonderful cathedral. Also there is the Nene valley steam railway for a relaxing steam train ride through exellent scenery.

You could hire a nicve cottage, I have stayed in some lovely cottages in the Norfolk area and had a really chilled weekend in front of a nice log fire and dinner in a nice pub nearby.

Pop out and get the papers on Sunday morning and cook her breakfast.....
