Christmas Shoes..They have a variations of different artist singing this particular song. At our church we're doing a cantata of course I'm leading another solo song because I'm unable to perform this song.

The song is very sad about a mother who is very sick and dying on Christmas Eve. Her little son knows she wants these particular Christmas Shoes and he sneaks out of the house with pockets filled with coins to buy them so she could look beautiful when she meets Jesus that night in Heaven. Fortunately a man is standing in line to help him out because he doesn't have enough money.

Gortoz A Ran-J'Attends

Composed by Hans Zimmer
as performed by Denez Prigent and Lisa Gerrard

It's an operatic piece, sung in Arabic, and absolutely magnificent.

I have never been able to find the lyrics or I'd provide a link.

"Mad World" by Gary Jules

correction: I did not realize that Gary Jules' version was a cover of an earlier piece. The original author is Roland Orzabal, a member of "Tears for Fears", an early 80's British band.

Black Woman
By a African Queen and singer from the island of Trinidad in the Caribbean, south of Venezuela.
I had the honour of hearing her sing it live on more than one occassion. It was wonderful.

Unfortunately, I tend to overlisten to songs that have that effect on me until I get sick of them. The most recent song that did that to me was "slide" by goo goo dolls.

Every couple of years one comes out that I obsess over.

Inna Gadda Davida (the 12 minute long concert addition with the extended solo's). I just wonder what drugs they were on.

Some Rush songs amaze me with their technical virtuousity, and some Marylin Manson songs shock me with their anger and hate.

A song nobody is going to know -

"Walls," by a band called Emery. Intense, melodic, cathartic and scream-tastic, it is intelligent and complex. I am in awe of how deep this song is lyrically and musically.
