In the state of Oklahoma it is illegal to drive without footwear. This was quoted to me by the cop that pulled me over several years ago after leaving the lake.We had been swimming and just jumped in the car without shoe's.

Living in Florida, I wear flip flops a lot, and find that my shoe gets caught when using the clutch, so I always kick them off....I was also a long distance truck driver for many many years and I almost always drove barefoot....just my preference. Years ago in NC (where I'm from) there was a law on the books that men had to wear shoes and women did not....I'm pretty sure that law is no longer used....not sure it was EVER actually enforced. It would be hard to be ticketed for driving barefoot unless you were already pulled over for another infraction!

With some of the ladies shoes that around these days I would definitely say that wearing no shoes is a LOT safer! I am not sure about the laws in Australia.

I don't understand why driving without shoes would be illegal. Do they think your foot is too sensitive? That you might have a tack laying around in your car? I've never heard an argument for the law.
I say go ahead, drive barefoot-ed!

When I learned to drive, there WAS a law just like that in Kansas. I think it has been removed now because my daughter's driver's ed teacher told her it wasn't a law. I drive with shoes on.

I always drive with shoes on, but don't think there is a law about it where I live.
I would be concerned about dirt in the carpet digging into my heels. And sometimes, my clutch master cylinder leaks onto the clutch pedal.

If you feel comfortable enough to drive your car without shoes,
I suggest that you go ahead because there are no traffic rules
or regulations to say that one can't drive a car without shoes.
Many people I know of are driving their cars without shoes.
Personally, I feel that the most important aspect of driving a
car is to drive safely when you're comfortable and in full control
of the steering wheel.

I'm all for going barefoot, but not while driving. I've never done it without shoes - had no reason to really.
