I'll side with Thomas Jefferson on this one. Jefferson once said, "Question boldly even the existence of God; because if there be one, He must approve the homage of Reason rather than that of blindfolded Fear."

Yeah, I suppose I kinda agree with some of that.

Understand, and I'm trying NOT to be ornary, I'm not a Muslim and a lot of things about Islam bug me but...

Did you stray from the GOOD PARTS of Islam or the BAD PARTS?

I mean did you go out and have fun and break the sex rules and the drinking rules and the gambling rules.

I'm not necessarily opposed to those rules, however the Amish let their kids at 18 go out and find out about all that stuff and then they have the option to come back after they make up their minds.

I'm not opposed to the "good stuff" in any religion. War, hatred, murder, killing, that's not good stuff.

If a person wants to stay in any religion for the good stuff, I can't see anything wrong with that either.

There's also nothing wrong with using your brain.

What I'm opposed to, and I suppose Atheists and I can agree on this point, along with a lot of other religions, is no one should go off and follow a religion or belief for the BAD STUFF.

Everyone is vulnerable to that!

You seemed to be on the right path by questioning your indoctrinated religion - and then you screwed up and went back to it.
Face it - your best option is to question what you have been taught as a child. Look at the reality of life. Make an educated decision and not one based on the lies spread by false and sel-appointed so-called prophets. The real truth is there to be discovered and accepted as your decision and not what imams force you to believe - or even your sadly-misguided parents, who pushed you into this life in the first place. It is the intentional indoctrination of children that perpetuates this scam and children - of any religion who are not given the opportunity and the facts to be able to make up their own minds - find themselves trapped.
Islam, in particular, is compulsory - no choice. No choice means that muslim family children cannot escape the inevitability of being subject to their lives being totally ruled by religion. There is an alternative. Escape while you have the chance.

What a wonderful thing to say! Very inclusive! And it honors the very thing we all enjoy. Life.

I wish more people like you, those who follow and believe in one of the three major monotheistic religions, had the basic humanity and sense to think like you. Yes. We all have brains. Whether they are god given is the debate but ultimately we have them so they are there to be used.

You honor that. Consequently, I have great respect for you.

I respect anyone who uses their brain and are not blindly led around. Usually those who think are the best people (sometime not but usually). Believe me when i say this that God gave us a brain for a reason. So that we would not be led astray. Use your mind, question everything, but also have faith. Peace too you.

Why is it that Muslims have more respect for atheist than most Christians do? I think you are a right!

Salam :) From one Muslim to another, I agree with you. We should all have some manners and respect one another regardless of religion or no religion.

Otherwise how can we expect to be treated with respect and tolerance when we don't practice it ourselves to begin with?

I think the bottom line in all human relations is to treat people with respect and dignity.

Personal beliefs are just that, personal and nothing more.

My father was always fond of saying, "Live and let live!"

I love all people just dont love what some of them are doing. As far as atheist goes they are just blinded as many false religions are. I hope one day those blinders will be taken off so they can see the truth.

Yes. I'm a Christian, and I have a lot of respect for what I call "thinking" atheists. They're intelligent, and can actually defend their position.
Of course, sometimes some atheists are just as dumb as some Christians, lol.
