If you want to channel music into your PC via a external media player (tape deck, turntable, tuner, etc...) then simply connect this device to your sound card via the "line in" jack at the back of the PC. It may be necessary for you to verify your computer's sound control properties & make sure that the "line in" volume control is not "muted".

If you want to channel music into your PC via a musical instrument you will need (in most cases) to use the "midi port" connection on the sound card. This requires considerably more tweaking & often requires third party software depending on the instrument.
