I give my cats water to drink but have noticed that they always try and lap up the last of the soy milk from my cereal bowl.
Is soy milk ok to give to cats every now and then as a healthy alternative to cows milk and a tasty alternative to water?

I had the general impression that soy products are not good for cats. I have asked a question on my Holisticat group, the leader there is very knowledgeable about what kinds of foods are good for cats. So if I get a response today I will post what the opinion is on it.
I know it is a cheap grain and is added to commercial pet foods. Maybe, like the ubiquitous corn it has no real value for cat nutrition.

No milk of any kind except their mothers own is the best rule for cats. Whilst they will try and lap up just about anything out of a bowl they are best with just plain water, and even better if it's not out of a tap

I think it's ok but it's best to give them special Whiskas cat milk really.
Normal milk and cream etc contains enzymes that cats cannot digest and they should not be given to cats at all.

NO!!!
Recent tests implicate soy products contributing to HCM (cardiomyopathy - a fatal heart disease) in cats. When I found this out, I actually returned an expensive, soy-based cat food to my vet.

I would suggest that you give your cat water and cat milks as soya can cause problems in animals.
Or better still ask your vet.

My cat lived for 19 years and had cows milk every day, so soya should be absolutely fine.

In small amounts it is fine. But do not give any kind of real milk to cats unless it is a VERY small amount. It gives them stomach problems.
