When I'm at work, I find that I have some days where I seem to have super hearing abilities (and I'm hearing impaired!) and can hear keyboards clacking away, papers ripping, staplers clicking, and it just really gets on my last nerve. My sense of smell is heightened in unpleasant scents. What is this? Does anyone go through something similar, and how do you handle it?

Could be tension and stress are heightening your senses. Is it accompanied by a headache? Migraine headaches tend to heighten the senses as well.

It could be part of your inner self responding negatively to an environment you really aren't enjoying anymore. It may be time to think about what else there is besides sitting there day after day, hearing and smelling the same things every day. Sounds like you need something new.

Only time I've heard of elevated senses is when someone is pregnant. My mom couldn't stand the smell of butter or the sound of someone dragging their feet.
