How come Junior Officers older than me get pissed from taking orders from me a Senior Officer, even if I go out of my way to be kind to them and give the orders with respect due to thier age.
Even to the extent of greeting them first which is not supposed to be. Am I doing something wrong here?

No you are doing nothing wrong. I am Lt. Capt. of post 28 I'm in my 20's I have 22 troopers under me and yes 7 are over age 30 a few don't really like that a young gun like myself is in a high rank but they do respect me as I am in charge. You can be nice but outside of work all 22 of my officers are good friends with me outside work at work I am boss.

Multitude of possible answers.
1. Did you get promoted over other officers based on nepotism ?
2. Did you get promoted over other officers based on you sleeping with someone ?
3. Do you act like a fool sometimes?
4. None of the above but the perception is that you did one of the above ?
5. None of the above, You worked your A$$ off and got yourself promoted and the other officers are irate that they should have worked harder to get themselves promoted but lacked the intestinal fortitude to do so ?

There is no reason for you to go out of YOUR way to be kind to anyone. You are the Senior Officer. Treat them with the respect that you would like as a Human Being !! I hope that you got to your position through hard work and per severity. Try counseling the next one who is disrespecting you. Not in front of another as you will lose even more creditability but one on one and see what they have to say.

Bottom line is you are the boss, you have more experience and you are responsible for their lives. Don't be so nice anymore. Be stern but fair. They mistake your kindness for weakness.
As long as you go by your general orders or whatever administrative rules you have there should be no problem.

Knowledge and experience go a long way.

If you do not have both, or are perceived as lacking in one, the other, or both you may be resented.

It also could be something as simple as they do not like you as a person but must respect your position.

Where did you get your commission? Age has nothing to do with it, if your senior then you are senior and that is just how it is!

Don't be nice, be professional and fair, but don't be nice!
