You will need a degree in social work - make sure the university you choose includes registration with the course. You will need to be a governement registered practitioner to get a job at the end.

To get onto the degree you will need good GCSE's possible a levels or an access course. You will also have to have a CRB (criminal records bureau) check. This will look for things like violent crimes or abusive behaviours. Every job you apply for as a social worker will need this but if you don't have a criminal record then its nothing to worry about.

If you want to work with children, go into Teaching/Schools or Nursing.

What ever you do, do NOT train to become a Social Worker - they are treated like #### and work VERY long hours for very little pay. A lot of them were doing their own work, PLUS the work of 2 or 3 other Social Workers that the organisation did NOT replace, and they had to battle to get paid and claim the expenses for their original job.

you would have to do a social degree i.e psychology or the likes of. Once qualified you can become a junior social worker...and there is a great demand for them.
