Lots of facial washes claim to work miracles on acne skin but often don't work for acne caused by hormonal imbalances.
Isotretinoin (brand name: Accutane) is a prescription oral treatment which is generally for extreme cases, it works by reducing the amount of oil produced in the oil glands and can cause dry skin, cracked lips etc. However a single 15-20 week course has been shown to result in complete clearing and long term remission of acne in many people.

An example of an over-the-counter treatment is Benzoyl Peroxide (this is available as a prescription too), this is the ingredient largely used in facial washes such as Clearasil and Neutrogena. This works by killing the bacteria that causes acne, however around 3% of people are allergic to this and will experience an inflammation of the skin.

Below is a brilliant, user friendly website, made by a past sufferer of acne, which gives lots of information on acne treatments and hundreds of reviews from users. Remember, if acne is consistently extreme you should consult a dermatologist who can advise you on treatments. Good luck =]

I struggled with acne for years and I finally found the solution that works for me. We have been fooled, tricked, deceived, and just plain lied to. It's time that someone put a stop to it, and everyone learn the truth!

Those of us who suffer from acne have usually been given 2 choices and neither of them work:

1. Over the counter remedies such as cleansers, creams, ointments, etc. These things have been proven over and over again not to work. Why? It does not address the root cause of the problem.

2. Go see a doctor and or dermatologist. They will generally prescribe prescription drugs which include topicals and or antibiotics. This, too, has been proven over and over again not to work. Why? It does not address the root cause of the problem.

I found a step-by-step program that cured my acne and it has never come back. It is amazing and doesn’t use any drugs or doctors. The truth is that acne can be cured…if we know the secret the doctors and drug companies don’t want us to know.

There is a great website: http://cure-my-acne.info/3daycure/ that has all the details. I really suggest you check it out and see if it works as well for you as it did for me.

i had horrible acne too and i found the perfect stuff

HERES WHATS GOING ON
we just learned about this in anatomy

your sebacious gland (your oil gland) is getting clogged, and this forms a white head. Well, when this happens in open air, it turns black causing a black head, and when the blackhead gets infected, it causes a pimple. an active infection is what is known as acne

THE BEST PRODUCT for BLACKHEADS and acne
Its been proven
is called ACNEFREE, it clears the sebaceous gland and dries up the pores. you can get it almost anywhere and it works great for everyone i know who uses it
it comes in 3 steps, but i also purchased the 4th step, called ther acne and blackhead terminator. It is prescription quality, but much cheaper

its like proactive only better

i really hope this helps

Generally I would agree that if he lacks the motivation don't carry him along. But I lived with horrible acne for years and found the only thing that was 100% guaranteed to clear it up was a pill called Acutane. You need a prescription for it but its completely worth it. What's more it requires no drive to take a pill every day.

I use it faithfully twice a day, and it's helped me immensely. Email me if you want me to help you get some. Good luck! http://www.melaleuca.com/ps/index.cfm?f=ps.productDetail&pid=2849&pType=0

If he has not had a course or oral antibiotics go to your Doctor and get some. If he has then ask for a referral to a dermatologist and don't take no for an answer. Acne could leave him with lifelong scarring, it needs to be sorted early and it is treatable.
