I have a few fake windows CDs and the laptop does not seem to recognise these CDs even though they work fine on a desktop pc. do i need an original windows cd to reinstall or not?

I have tried setting the fake windows cd in first place using bios and it just doesnt recognise it.

When it goes to set up.. it detects all the requirements and when it says install windows, it says hard disk is not recognised. exit set up.

but i know these cds are fine as i have checked them on another computer.

also, i know the hard drive is fine because it is detected and i can see it in bios. please help!

Well.....there is 2 options in ur case:
1. Go to local store and ask for a copy of the recovery CD .
2. Install XP from a genuine XP cd and use serial nr . from COA (Certificate Of Authenticity) from back-side of the laptop. In this case u will need to download Sata Hdd drivers from Fujitsu web site and put on a flopy . After u boot XP CD press F6 and insert the flopy (with sata drivers ) into a USB external flopy drive .

If you wanna know more.....
Feel free to contact me on yahoo messenger for more details.

i have had this problem with genuine xp discs and i have diagnosed it to a few reasons
first reason is that you may be using incompatible memory,as windows will pick up on this and will halt the installation process,xp is very sensetive and will not allow any inferior hardware to be used
second,it could be a read problem,so first clean the discs and the dvd/cd rom using a good lens and cd cleaner, this should really be done every few weeks
check your bios settings in set-up 1)cd-rom is the 1st in boot order and go into cmos settings and make sure that your drive is showing in there and is set to auto, all this will be in cmos settings page and also in there you will find all your cd/dvd-roms and time and date(make sure this is correct too as a incorrect date and time can mess things up too)
another problem can be that when microsoft install updates they can also install all kinds of info on your p.c and if you are running anything that is not-genuine it can sometimes drop a peice of code on your p.c so that no pirated copies of xp can be installed on the computer
in this case you would have to do a complete format and get rid of all data on your computer, you can do this with any 3rd party formatting tools but i like to use a windows 98 start up disk and run fdisk and also use the dos command format c:
if you need any bootdisk including a xp bootdisk go to http://www.bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm,you will find all kinds of free bootdisk there and they are all free
good luck
