My husband and I were walking through the local farmer's market, where they also have various other vendors. I'm thinnish, but have a bit of a gut. A woman came running up to me saying that her company gives massages to pregnant women too! Except that I'm not pregnant, and we decided not to have kids!
This is not the first time I've gotten that. Why do people have the gall to just assume?? And what's the best way to reply?

RUDE!!! I can't believe how badly people put their foot in their mouths. Let this be a warning to all people....don't mention someone's "pregnancy" unless they tell you about it first!!

This is probably because so much of the media (print/TV) glorifies a perfectly flat tummy. Not everyone has one. She made a mistake and I'm sure would have felt horribly embarrassed had she known. Most people don't set out to insult another, it's just that many have their assumptions and she acted on that assumption. I've done that once in my life and learned my lesson, I was very humiliated. Once someone did it to me - and I felt bad bc I corrected her but she looked like the fool then so I had some empathy for her embarrassment at learning the truth.
True, never assume a person's pregnancy status! :) Just correct them on the spot, that way they will never make the assumption again.

Simply give them a dirty look and reply, "That's nice. I'll be sure to tell the next pregnant woman I see." And walk away.
Everyone knows that you NEVER EVER EVER suggest a woman is pregnant without being 110% certain of her condition.

I too have have had this happen!! I was a size 7 (at the time) and am 5'8" so I was not fat!!
Just pause and give a cold stare and say "I'm not pregnant" and keep staring until they feel very uncomfortable and they scurry away!

This is so annoying!! I have had it happen to me as well, even my mother asked me if I was pregnant. I just say" What makes you think I am pregnant" and watch their faces go bright red.
Some people just do not think before they speak!

Say something clever like, "If I see any, I'll tell them about you."
She will most likely be mortified. Then laugh and tell her it's ok.
It was an honest mistake.

I would probably embarrass them and tell them I wasn't pregnant and watch them stick their foot in their mouth.
