The toughest help a mum can do sometimes is not to help and encourage him to get a job or second job and save the necessary money. Too many times my friends kids have not appreciated the help and just abuse it

This is a case of tough Love

Well you certainly don't have to puke as the other answer suggests....some people huh?
Anyway, if I've learned anything in my 43 years it would be that family usually doesn't pay you back. So if your Mum is to be the guarantor she's probably going to end up paying for the whole thing. Or at least most of it. I don't know your brother, so I could be wrong, but the odds are against your Mum getting her money back. If there's another way your brother can obtain the vehicle then he should take that avenue and leave your Mum out of it....
Just my opinion...
Good luck....It's sweet that you care about your Mum.! !

Been there done that! Tell mum it's not a good investment. Most times the liability falls on the co signer. He'll default on the loan and your mum will have to pay for it. It will put a bad mark on her credit if he misses one payment. I would advise against her doing this.

Mum needs to grow a backbone. Tell your brother to get a job and save his money for a car. He can pay cash and not have to take out a loan.

To be a guarantor is generally a bad idea. It should be done only under exceptional circumstances and buying something that can wait is NOT one of the exceptional circumstances!

She should not. Even if he IS going to be thrown to the loan sharks. If he has lied and cheated before, he will do it again.
