I find that partly baked french baguette are ideal for paninis. They are available in most supermarkets

Traditionally you would use baguette-style or ciabatta. Focaccia is good too. You can even slice hamburger buns or hot dog buns, or use pizza dough if your choices are limited! If you have a bakery nearby or a supermarket with a good fresh bakery section, big soft rolls should be available there, but honestly, almost any good bread will do fine.

Buy the ones in your supermarket that you heat up yourself at home. They're marginally better than the 'fresh' ones that go hard as soon as you get them unpacked, let alone made into a sandwich!
Good luck -I have real trouble finding decent bread in any of my local supermarkets, especially, dare I say it.... Sainsburys! Their bread is utter cr*p. But then we can always vote with our feet, so I just don't buy it!!!

panino is italian for sandwhich
so use any kind of bread you would normally use to make a sandwhich

I think Foccacia is good, or any type of bread that hold its structure when you press it. Paninis is gooooodddddd......mm..mmm.mmm...

Baguette's are nice, or Go to the supermarkets (Tesco etc) and you can actually buy panninis

I use sourdough. Then again, I live near the bay area, so the sourdough is EXCELLENT.
