In the early years of our country, packaging did not exist as it does today. Soda crackers were stored and shipped in wooden
barrels. Cracker was also a name for men who drove wagons and used whips to motivate the dray animals. When the whips were applied to the animals, the resulting sound was a " loud crack".

Ever been to a grocery store and walked over to the deli case and seen all the cheese. If you look closely, and can read, half of them say "Cracker Barrel". It's a world famous brand of cheese, hence the name of the restaurant. Speaking of minorities, have you seen the latest census results, white males are now a minority. And do you really think something that caters to white people would use the word "cracker" in the title, it's not a compliment, you know!

The restuarant is called Cracker Barrel because they used a barrel that shipped crackers flipped to play checkers.

The name of the joint has nothing to do with white people...I'm sure that they don't want to discriminate, but I've never really seen many black people there...
