the best way to improve a language is to read in that language alot, even if that means to stay with a dictionary by your side.
also ..having someone who is native english,i mean a friend..could help....try to read and speak everyday..in a short while you'll see the results.

There is a wonderful computer program called "The Rosetta Stone" that I used to use in English Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) classes. It can help you very much, but the best way to learn, and the best practice, is to talk to people who already speak English. Find someone you are comfortable with, and don't be afraid to ask questions if you don't understand something. Practice telephone conversations, grocery store conversations, and doctor conversations to familiarize yourself with everyday and important tasks.

Also, your local library may offer free ESOL classes, where you will be assigned a tutor and may be able to work with other students trying to learn as well. If your local library doesn't offer it, there may still be other programs in town for free that are specifically for people who want to improve their English.

Good luck!

Well, I agree with that one post it easier to learn a language when you are surrounded by it. But mostly speaking and reading it will help you. Ask questions when you dont understand something. I want to learn French so bad but have very little time and I also feel kinda silly when I start talking. So if you have the same issues as me let them go. Find the time and dont feel silly. Take it from me it will hold you back, if you are serious about it. So, good luck!

1st thing that you could do is listen to an English Radio Station, like BBC Radio 4, OK it's a boring station but it can help, then you could spend some time over here in Britain where you have to speak the lingo. Try and go to a college that sends its pupils here as a part of the course.

I used to teach English to Zulu speakers. The ones who learnt quicker ,were the ones who used to watch TV ,listen to an English radio station and read. they were also less scared of making mistakes ,when speaking to someone English.

The one man in particular fascinated me , because he was actually from Mozambique and I think he spoke French there.Within 3 years of moving ,he had taught himself to speak Zulu, and English was his next mission. He used to watch children's programmes on TV ,to pick up basic English . In between that he would listen to more difficult things, and kept going by asking questions.

I am a big fan of pen pals, and think that you could probably learn that way too. perhaps you can find someone who is also learning ,and write to each other.

good luck.

I have an Italian friend, she came to England for 2 years and she speaks very good English now.

It is better and easier to learn in a country that speaks English, so come on over!

Good luck.

You are already more literate than some of the English people on here!, so don't worry about it to much. Maybe you could find a penfriend who would like to learn Italian.

The best way to practice and improve in a foreign language, is to read comics for children in that language.

My best friend tweeked her English speaking skills by watching soap operas b/c they say the same thing over & over in different ways. I'd only suggest it for that purpose - otherwise I'm sure you could find more productive (and God-honouring) things to do with your time. Good luck & God bless. ~Nise~
