Where can I find information about actuator backlash?

I've been tasked with writing a summary on the engineering impacts to a mechanism. I realize that backlash is due to the tolerance buildup of the internal components but I'm looking for a good analytical way of discribing the effects. Anything you can come up with would be appreciated. Thank you.
