Salams sister, I have also wondered about this and every time i ask somebody who knows more about our religion than i do, the answer is 'no'. it has been explained to me that we must be buried with all our organs in tact & still in our bodies, just the way Allah (swt) had created us at birth.
I have been told that whilst an individual is alive, if an immediate family member whose blood & tissue types are compatible with yours needs an organ it is acceptable to donate, but it should not be done ramdomly or given to a stranger.
I am not completely 100% accurate about the legitamicy of these comments but as i mentioned earlier every body i have asked has given me this same response.
I think its best if you ask a Sheikh. Salams

Some people say you can and others say you cant but I was taught that you cant by my mualimas. It depends on how you look at it. the Quraan says you should do whatever you can to help others and save lives but it also says that the body must be buried in tact if possible. the body is a vessel for the soul and once the soul leaves it belongs solely to Allah and you cannot choose what should happen to it.
When in doubt it is best to abstain. (after seeking out all truthfull info of course.)
I could be wrong but this is just how i was taught.

The majority opinion on this is that it is allowed.
Hoever there is a minority opinion (you should check your own madhab) that says that it is possible to donate an organ while you are alive (kidney, liver, bone marrow, etc) but once you are dead all your organs must be buried with the rest of the body.
I tend to go with the majority opinion.
And Allah knows best.
Peace and Blessings,
Salim

I'm not muslim, but I find "getting spare parts" from a person repulsive. I came in this world with all my parts and I'll be going out with them too!

people have different opinions, as they do in everything, the best thing to do is research yourself and decide who and what you believe,
and to whoever said they get blowed up and/or burned, grow up and get your facts right, that's not Muslims that's Hindus

good question.
i think it depends on how muslim you are. some think you can't let anything except poo out of your body; you need to drink your pee and sweat and tears. some don't.
